Influencers, Sustainable Travel

It’s all about taking that one step

Karoline and Rasmus are a young couple from Denmark. Rasmus was managing a travel agency in winter sport tourism and when Karoline applied for a job, it was Rasmus who decided to take the job interview himself and that’s how they met. They have now been together for more than 5 years and are both very passionate about traveling. They have traveled all around the world to exotic destinations with a black climate footprint. It was two years ago they decided that it was time to change – they want to prove that it’s possible to change bad habits without compromising on either quality luxury or great holiday experiences. They believe that it’s important for them to make sure that they are able to show the future kids, as many incredible places and cultures as they have been lucky enough to see and experience. This is why they have decided to become an eco-friendly travel and sustainable lifestyle blog.

It was during their trip around south-east Asia they realized how bad of an impact our travels had on the planet. At The Island Hideout they were introduced to the concept eco-friendly tourism by the owner Anita, who had built this beautiful hotel in Thailand. She definitely had an impact on their journey. The have the following code of conduct which helps them to reach the goals of sustainable tourism:

1) Only to collaborate with partners who have a sustainable product or sustainable value chain
2) or supports the environment with relevant CSR activities
3) To reduce their transport emission by researching alternative ways of travel than flights
4) To inform their followers about how to travel more eco-friendly
5) To reduce their waste on travels as they are at home
6) To continuously educate themselves on how traveling can affect the earth and how to reduce the negative effects.

They have been traveling full time for two years now, and most often it can be different to distinguish between the different trips. What they love the most is the mixture between visiting the buzzing city life and being in the peaceful wilderness. For them it’s also important that they can enjoy what they like to call ‘Green Luxury’ and Juvet Landscape hotel is a perfect example of that. More example of Green Luxury accommodations are these hotels they’ve stayed at: https://thetravelbook.world/2020/01/18/favorite-eco-friendly-hotels/

Their biggest challenge is definitely the fact that they are a couple, coworkers, best friends and travel buddies. It can be very hard to distinguish between the different roles. Sometimes they simply need to sit down, look at each other and arrange a date night. They love each other very much and they work hard on keeping the romance in our relationship and prioritizing our relationship first. Since neither of them eats meat, they sometimes have a struggle regarding food when they travel around. It has all to do with different cultures and countries. For instance, as soon as one enters the countryside in most countries, most of the meals are built up around ‘meat’. They often talk about the meals they had at SkarrildHus in Denmark. This was also the first hotel in Denmark to receive the silver mark in ‘organic food’ from.

During one of their adventures around Scandinavia they stayed at an incredible place, Bergaliv, which is a completely isolated wooden cabin in the middle of forest with no neighbors in sight. The view from up there is incredible. When asked about the must carry essentials for them, they told us that Rasmus would never leave without his camera gear and Karoline would always bring her Yoga mat. They most often do our adventures by electric or hybrid cars, which means they always have enough space for everything.

The best part about their journey is that they are able to share and create all memories together. Most people work from 9-5 and are looking forward to coming home to their family and especially to have holidays together. They are extremely lucky that they can share every moment of every day together. They have both traveled for many years without thinking of which kind of impact our travels had on the planet. During the past two years they have proved that it’s possible to change bad habits without compromising on either quality, luxury or great holiday experiences. By sharing their story on Journey to Dreams, we just wanna say one thing – If they can do it, so can you!
